Up bright and early (even saw a sunrise!) and underway. Today we would go through our first lock, but the fenders we were going to use for locking needed to be blown up. Bob got to work inflating the fenders and attaching lines to the fenders while Lynda navigated the boat. We got to the first lock, the Troy Federal Lock, and Lynda called the lock operator on the radio and requested to "lock through". That's boat speak for asking them to open the lock doors and lift you up to get to the other side. At normal operating depths, it lifts boats 14 feet. As evidenced by the photos below, our first lock encounter was successful and we continued on to the Waterford Visitor Center. We will be staying here for two nights, as the dock is FREE, including water and electric. Free is good!! Tomorrow we will do some grocery shopping and laundry as everything is close by. We're told that we can even take the grocery cart from the store and wheel it back to the boat with our groceries. The store comes by the Visitor Center every Saturday to pick them up!

Hi--I Hope you will have an album of your beautiful pictures. That looks like the lock we went thru in maine on Long Lake. No more vibrations?? Keep us posted--first thing I do in the morning is read your blog.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you are riding high. Are you on the low side of fuel and water?
ReplyDeleteCongrats by the way on starting your loop journey. I found you through Trawler Blogs as I was looking for Mainships to follow.

Bob and Lynda I'm enjoying the pictures. Here I thought you might have made it to Old Saybrook by now, but you're already moving up the Hudson. Whose boat am I going to visit this August now that you will not be in Mystic? Bob -- we need you back at OPM -- turn around!
