We knew today would be a long day, so we had hoped to leave a little earlier. Unfortunately, with the morning, came the fog and we needed to wait for it to lift. Finally by 9:30 it was clear enough to head out, so we began our journey. As the day progressed, the sky became bright blue and the sun was warm. We arrived at Drummond Island Yacht Harbor at 3:00 pm. This is where we will need to do our customs check-in. When we checked through customs in Canada, Bob did it via a phone that was located at the marina in Kingston. Drummond Island is a face to face interview with the customs officer. We pulled up to the fuel dock and by the time we had completed docking, the officer was there. Bob got all our paperwork and documentation together and presented each item as requested by the officer. He asked Bob if we had any liquor on board, if we had any cash over $10,000, where we lived, where we had stayed prior to the check-in and if we had a safe (?!) on board. He must have answered everything satisfactorily, because we were done! I noticed there was another looper at the marina and went over to say hello. It was Sweetgrass and they were staying at Drummond Island that night to visit with friends. I’m sure we will see them again, as they will also be attending the AGLCA Rendezvous at Joe Wheeler. After a pump-out, we were again on our way by 3:45 pm. With BraveHeart following, we went across the channel to an anchorage at Harbor Island for the night. This is another quiet, still harbor and I’m sure we will have a great night’s sleep.

Looks like maybe a poopy day in the straits.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should figure around Labor Day for getting together. Saugatuck would be a cool stop. Maybe Holland or New Buffalo too. We'll just have to see what will work out.
