Cumulative 3251.1
At 6:35 am our lines were cast off our lines and we left the marina along with eight
other boats, all headed to the Demopolis Lock.
When we arrived at the lock, there were three more boats waiting to lock through;
that made twelve boats! The lock was extremely full!

In April 1979 the river was at a record 24 feet above flood
stage and was within a few feet of the Rooster Bridge, a steel drawbridge. The tug, Cahaba got caught in the powerful
current, turned the boat sideways then pushed the tug under the bridge. The tug rolled and eyewitnesses heard the
sound of it being scraped along the underside of the bridge. But because the tug had a lot of cement
ballast, it popped up on the other side!
Remnants of the Rooster Bridge |
This portion of the river is extremely twisty. Although the Waterway is only a thousand feet
through trees on our right, we must travel almost three miles by water to get
there!
Note the curvy river on the left picture. Our position is the red boat. See how close the waterway is! |
See those orange balls on that BIG yacht below? That is where we will be spending the
night! The boat, "Sensation", is docked at
Bobby’s Fish Camp. Bobby’s dock is only
160 feet long. Sensation is 112 feet
long, Sweet Pea (44 feet long) is docked in front of it, and Loop Dreams (41 feet long) is
rafted to Sweet Pea. We will be rafting
to Sensation!
112 foot Sensation and Erika Lin's bow on the right! |
After we were comfortably docked, we went to Bobby’s for
dinner.
