Erika Lin, Loop Dreams and Sweet Pea cast off their lines, the two boats in front of us
did the same and we got underway. Today
has been a day for opposites. Up to now, all
the tows have been large barges being pushed by a large tug boat. But tows come in may sizes-see below!
Most of the trip along the Tenn Tom has been trees and rocks
and a house here and there. Today we
came across a large construction project, right on the river.
Most of the boats we have seen on our journey have been
similar in size to ours, some a bit smaller and some a bit larger. Today we saw what has to be the smallest boat
a couple is living on. One of the folks
from our group of boats spoke with them on the VHF radio and it learned these folks are
traveling to Louisiana on this raft!
We had heard that the “Mile 14” bridge, which is a railroad
bridge, was being replaced. Below is a
shot of the old railroad bridge which was a swing bridge (meaning it turned 90
degrees to create the opening) and a shot of the brand new lift bridge. The old swing mechanisim is
still in the water and they were working on removing it.
